Special Outreaches

Matthew 10:7 "When you  go, tell them this: 'God's kingdom is coming soon.'"

The Lord has provided the means and opened the doors for us to do many special outreaches over the years...here is a sampling of the variety of ways we have enjoyed serving....

MITCH BLESSES A FAMILY WITH A REBUILT COMPUTER!

March 2009: Mitch rebuilt this computer and gave it to this Christian family with 2 small children in Mexico....(below) Wendell from Alabama spent time teaching them how to use it during the surgical clinic time....what a blessing that he was there to do this!  God always puts us where we can do the most good!

After Hurricane Dolly Food Delivery - Aug. 2008

Many households here in the US were affected after the hurricane, due to a decrease in available work because of all the mud and rain from Dolly.  This meant that many were short on money for food, so we went shopping and bought lots of goodies for one group of 20 families (enough for several complete meals) and everyone had to help package it all up. Below, Grandsons, Joshua and Steven, help Kathleen and below Alyssa (3 years old) was in charge of the tortillas.

20 bags ready for delivery, with potatoes, eggs, and meat in the buckets in back and the cooler.  Below, Debbie J, deliveries the food by wading through a foot of dirty water in rubber boots, while I drive from home to home. We are blessed so that we can bless others, and once again God was able to use this food to show people his compassion and love.

COMPUTER LAB

For about two years now, Mitch has had the vision of starting a computer lab. It would be set up in a church with all the Mexican school programs in the computers and available to the children of the church and surrounding areas.  He was recently able to take two "fully-loaded" computers over to Jonathan and Carolina's church.  They now have them set up and the children are able to come and do their homework, study, and do reports for school on these computers.  Mitch has all the school programs and the know-how to clean out and rebuild the computers and put the school programs into the them, so if you have any old computers, parts, or lap tops setting around that might be used for this outreach, please let us know.

WOMEN'S CONFERENCE

In 2006, I was able to help with a women's conference in Reynosa where the Spirit of the Lord moved mightily. The best praise report was of a backslidden pastor attending from out of town with his wife who was touched by the Lord and rededicated his life. You never know how God will move, but He always does!!  Below: Childrens class at the women's conference by Nancy Young.

BENCH BUILDING

A youth group from Houston and missionary partner, Andrew, make and paint benches for the children's feeding program.

LA HURRICANE HELP 2005

I was blessed to be able to set up a first aid station in a campground just north of New Orleans after the hurricanes hit.  Yes, we stayed in the tent! What a blessing to be able to treat and pray with refugees.

Food for feeding those in the campground, we also helped bringing in supplies and transporting refugees to town for medical treatment, food, supplies, clothes, and to do paperwork relating to disaster relief.

Below: I, Kathleen, ran the medical clinic in town for 2 weeks, refilling perscriptions, treating emergencies, and finding treatment for those that needed follow ups.  Many were prayed for and with during this time of loss.

I also got to help give away more than a half million dollars in relief funds to qualified evacuees and local residents that reached out to help them.  What a blessing this was for everyone.

 GIVING CLOTHES

Volunteer Delfine holds up dresses that were made up north to be given away to church girls.  They were beautiful and a blessing.

It is illegal to take used clothes into Mexico to give away, but we do love to take new clothing over in small amounts.

GIVING SHOES

A church group in Michigan sent us lots of new shoes to give out....this is something they can always use.

2008 Christmas at Youth Prison

For the 4th year we were able to provide a Christmas lunch of hamburgers, chips, fruit, cookies, and sodas to the youth (ages 11 to 17) in the Reynosa Youth Prison.  These kids are always open to hear the gospel and make friends with us.  We have a time of playing soccer or softball, a short Bible lesson, and an invitation to recieve Jesus as Savior, as well as, individual prayer at their request.  The group from Elgin Family Worship Center has done this for the last 3 years and we all enjoy it. This year I know at least 2 accepted the Lord!

YOUTH PRISON MINISTRY

NURSING CLASSES

In 2004, we held a 4 day class to train and prepare nurses that were working in isolated areas of Mexico without any equipment or supplies.  God blessed us with the ability to supply each nurse with a blood pressure kit, blood sugar testing supplies, thermometer, bandages, some meds, and lots of information on diabetes, heart disease, STD's, and  disease prevention. We have stayed in contact with these nurses and continue to supply them and their clinics with needed items. PTL - they continue to minister the Word to all their patients.

HOUSE BUILDING

This is Paola's kitchen, where she was feeding 30 school children breakfast every school day, no electricity, no water, no cabinets, no table/chairs - only dirt floors and an old two burner camp stove and a cooler. Note the holey plastic roof, air conditioned wall boards, and no kitchen door at all!

And the living room wasn't any better.  Note the furniture is old car seats set on pallets, the floors are dirt, and the walls are from old pallets and cardboard.

So the construction begins....a retaining wall, lots of fill dirt, and a cement slab.  Note the old house in the background built on a slope so that when it rained all the floors became rivers of water flowing through the house.

Building was paid for and put up & painted by a group from Sterlingwood Church in Houston.

Inside furnishings were purchased & donated by the ministry & Nancy to make it not only livable, but very nice, clean, and as modern as possible without water or electricity.  Included were new beds and bedding, table & chairs,  stove, cabinets & sink, dishes and kitchen supplies, and a mini-makeover for the mom and girls including hair-dos, new clothes, and nails painted for the dedication of the house. We believe we should do ALL things as if unto the Lord!  This is Paola in her new bedroom.

             FUTURE PLANS

We are currently praying about assisting with outreaches in Cd. Valles, SLP Mexico once again (this is where we started out living in 1987).  Possibly  a clinical and evangelical outreach with others.

Kathleen is continuing to pray about a missions trip to Africa - it will be medical, but the Lord hasn't given the go ahead, funds, or the where-to yet.  ALL in the Lord's timing!
